Three of us had dinner at this restaurant today. The ONLY reason I am dinging it with one star down is that they do not have Tea of ANY sort. We started off with the Guacamole dip and chips (and the usual basket of Salsa and chips). Well done and tasty. The Guacamole dip had good flavor, and was slightly chunky - Just the way I like it. The Salsa was very tasty, and had just enough heat to be interesting. My only complaint is that it was pretty much a puree' so a bit smooth for me. The chips are really great. They are crisp and puffy, rather as if they are made in house and fried as needed. I LIKED them. I had the Steak Quesadilla dinner. Simple fair...rice and re-fried beans and a couple of HUGE sandwiches. The meat was tasty and plenty of it. Lots of really great cheese packed in there too. A big plus is that about half the place is a grocery store, and if your Spanish is not good, either know exactly what you want, or bring some one along to translate. It all looks VERY authentic. Also, This restaurant passed my "authenticity" test. I looked around about halfway through dinner, and we were the ONLY Gringos in the place. Everyone else was Mexican, and, Spanish was the default language. The atmosphere was pretty friendly too. THe young lady that was waiting the area did a good job of keeping an eye on all of us, and I had no problems catching her attention to refill the Salsa, etc. The various other diners who I caught covertly watching us (perhaps to see if any of us would faint from the heat of the Red Sauce on the table) Smiled and nodded back when I acknowledged them. While I hate to do it (only because I am selfish and would prefer to NOT have to fight my way in to eat), I recommend this nondescript place for authentic, tasty Mexican food. And watch out for the Red Sauce on the table. It IS hot enough that a big dose would cause an elephant to cry and drink the Nile in hopes of relief.
if you do not want americanized Mexican food, this is the place to go. everything is made fresh and it is not nasty and greasy. If you are a fan of senor taco or cancuns, this is not the place for you. This is real mexican food! taco tuesday's are good portions for the price. very friendly people. I love this little market, becuse it reminds me of my aunt's mexican cooking when I was little. my dad and his family are from guatalajara, mexico and he has enjoyed the food I have brought home to him.
